User Guide

Create Journal Entry

  1. Enter the date the exercise was performed.
  2. Choose the type of journal entry that you will be recording.
    1. Lift Weight - Includes strengthening routines involving weights, reps, and sets. Move the slider bar to increase or decrease the number of sets.
    2. Calisthenics - Includes toning exercises involving sets and reps such as pull ups, push ups, sit ups, etc. Move the slider bar to increase or decrease the number of sets.
    3. Cardio - Includes any cardiovascular exercises that involve time, distance, and calories burned such as running, walking, biking, etc.
    4. Body Weight - This one's pretty obvious.
    5. Blood Pressure - Includes Systolic, Diastolic, and Pulse Rate readings.
  3. Enter an exercise.
  4. Provide additional notes.
  5. Save Journal Entry.

Search and Manage Journal Entries

  1. Select a method to search previously recorded entries.
    1. Quick Search by Exercise Enter the first few characters of the name you used to describe the exercise. Selecting the name will display the last journal entry recorded for that exercise.
    2. Search by Exercise Enter the name you used to describe the exercise. Selecting the name will bring up a list of all stored journal entries within the selected date range, sorted by date (default last 30 days). Click the calendar icon to change the window of displayed results. Select an item to view and/or manage the journal entry.
    3. Search by Date A list of all stored journal entries within the selected date range will be displayed, sorted by date (default last 30 days). Selecting a date will reveal a list of exercises that were performed on that date, sorted by time. Click the calendar icon to change the window of displayed results. Select an exercise to view and/or manage the journal entry.
    4. Calendar Search Use the calendar to select a date of an exercise. Selecting the date will bring up a list of exercises that were performed on that date. Select an exercise to view and/or manage the journal entry.
  2. Manage previously recorded journal entry.
    1. Clone the exercise Use this feature as a convenient way to quickly replicate a previously saved exercise. Clicking the diskette after updating the data will create a new entry with the current date as default.
    2. Delete the exercise
    3. Exercise Notes View or modify notes that you made about your exercise.
    4. Update the exercise Clicking the diskette after updating the data will modify the previously saved journal entry.

Exercise Directory

This is a list of exercise names stored when creating a journal entry. Click the exercise name to update or delete all associated journal entries.

Body Shots

  1. Create Body Shot
    1. Select a profile for the camera pose (Front, Back, or Side). The picture will be associated with this profile for future comparisons.
    2. Enter your current body weight. This will be displayed on the search list as a point of reference.
    3. Click the Create button to activate your phones camera and take a picture of the pose you selected.
    4. Body Shots taken outside of the My Workout Journal application can be uploaded by clicking the Batch Load from Card button. Prior to clicking this button, images should be copied onto the SD Card under the WorkoutJournal/bodyshotbatchload/{BACK, FRONT, or SIDE} directory. Only png and jpg images can be uploaded. All images will be automatically resized to 244px by 408px and will be saved under the files last modified date. A Body Weight can be associated with the uploaded image by creating a Body Weight journal entry for the date the image was last modified.
  2. Compare Body Shots
    1. Select a profile for the camera pose (Front, Back, or Side) that you would like to compare.
    2. Choose two dates from the list to compare side by side.
    3. Selecting a date displays a preview window, which allows you to select or delete individual body shots.
    4. Swiping a date from left to right will perform a quick delete of that entry.

Graph Journal Entries

  1. Choose a statistic for the data that you would like to analyze. Each statistic contains an icon which corresponds to the exercise metric type.
  2. Use the dates to select a starting and ending range.
  3. For Lift Weight, Calisthenics, and Cardio statistics, use the dropdown to select the appropriate exercise to analyze.
  4. Choose a method for displaying the data.
    1. Click the Calculate Avg. button to display the average statistic over the date range entered.
    2. Click the Show Table button to display a table of the exercises statistic over the date range entered.
    3. Click the Show Graph button to display a graph of the exercise statistic over the date range entered.
      • The graphs are shown in standard graph format versus time.
      • The BMI graph plots Body Mass Index versus time against a color coded background to show your result in the obese (red) , overweight (yellow), healthy (green), or underweight (purple) range as given by the generally accepted Adult BMI calculation.
      • The Blood Pressure and Pulse Rate graph plots a bar graph for the Blood Pressure with points for the Pulse Rate. Systolic pressure is the highest point of the bar and Diastolic pressure is the lowest point of the bar. Each half of the bar is color coded according to the legend at the bottom.

Data Management

  1. Use this feature to backup all journal entries, exercise directory, graphs, and body shot photos to your SD card. This will allow you to backup your data or transfer your data to a new phone.
  2. Use this feature to save a backup to your SD card and send a second copy to an email address of your choice. The Files are compressed in ZIP format and can be extracted to your PC with standard file utilities. This archive contains a README.txt file with additional information.
  3. Use this feature to recover all data that was previously backed up to the SD card.
  4. This will clear out all of your exercise data including journal entries, exercise directory, graphs, and body shot photos.

User Preferences

  1. Enter the preferred unit of measurement, either English or SI. These units will apply to all future journal entries that you store and all exercise statistics. The units for previously stored data cannot be changed.
  2. Enter your height. This is used for your BMI calculation.

Permissions

Why does My Workout Journal require certain permissions on my phone?

  1. Storage (modify/delete SD card contents)
  2. Network communication (Full Internet access)
